ELSA regional workshop at the Centre International de Valbonne on February 4th 2010 with Evie Rosset. This workshop will examine how language acquisition can shed light on the process of learning more generally. How is learning a language similar or different from learning to play the piano or understanding the theory of relativity? How is it different for a first or second language? We will discover an important lesson from bilingualism, and finish by discussing some implications for teaching.
Evelyn Rosset is a cognitive psychologist interested in bringing research out of the lab and into the real world. She earned her PhD from Boston University, where she is an adjunct professor. In France she continues to do research through affiliations with the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and the Université Pierre Mendès-France in Grenoble. She recently created Aboutmind (www.aboutmind.fr), an educational organization that gives workshops to schools and businesses about research in the brain and behavioral sciences.
